Seasons of Life

I was going to post last night when I received some great news! I waited, and now I have bad news too. First the bad: Jakie Mosley, wife of my former pastor Dr. Marvin J. Mosley, passed away this morning. She has been ill for a
long time, and the last few weeks have been especially rough. They have a special needs son named Kim, and a daughter named Rae who is my friend as well. They all have touched my heart-- Bro. Mosley was the pastor that baptized me. Please add this family to your prayers. It is never easy to lose someone you love, even when you know you will see them again in Heaven.

Now the good news! My friend P. who is the foste
r mommy to L.M. (remember them? If not, read "When loving someone breaks your heart.") has been anticipating having to turn him over to his bio mom since the end of January. L.M. has had visitations with her regularly, and she has been working to get him full time. Due to many circumstances, she has come to the realization that he is better off with P. for now, but wants to continue visitations and bonding, to eventually take him later. We are ecstatic! Although it just prolongs that eventual loss, P. will have even more time to enjoy that little boy and help him as he learns and grows into a two year old! Thank you, Lord.

So, I face two opposing emotions; that of sadness for my friends, and that of pure joy for another friend!

What do you see in the picture above? A brown leaf... The shell of a pecan... Dead grass? They are all there, but lets think in terms of seasons and life. To me, this represents the winter of our lives--The end of the year, the time when things seem to die and we throw away our broken pieces, broken dreams, sad things.

This is the picture I intended to take today. I call them our 'pre-bluebonnets'
, they look similar to our Texas Bluebonnets, but grow several weeks before. It signals that Spring is on its way. So, in terms of seasons and life, to me, it represents the spring of our life. Spring is full of new beginnings, fresh starts, sunny days, warm, happy times.

That was a nice picture. But, did you look closely at it? Did you see what is lurking among the flowers? It is a bit hard to see,.... but it is a bee! (That rhyme was not intentional!)

Since we are discussing symbolism, I view that bee as being like God. Working among us (the flowers), to bring new life (pollination) to others! I wish I had captured the bee in the first photo; I am sure it was hovering near by, as God is so close to us during the 'winter' of our lives as well.

Ok, so what does all this mean? Referring to my earlier comment: "
So, I face two opposing emotions; that of sadness for my friends, and that of pure joy for another friend!" Because I know God, and trust Him with all of the seasons of my life, I can handle the opposing emotions at the same time. He is here to console and comfort; He is also here to observe our joy and happiness! May you recognize that God is with you at every time in your life!

Ecclesiastes 3 (New International Version)

A Time for Everything
1 There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven:

2 a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,

3 a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,

4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,

5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain,

6 a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,

7 a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,

8 a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

  1. I always forget that you know Rae, too! It was a blessing that the Lord ended her mom's pain. It's always so very hard especially when your mom dies, but the Lord will get the family through this!
Am thrilled for your friend! The way I look at it, she has him now and that's what counts! We're only given today!
    Continuing to pray!
2 Timothy 1:8-10 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:

  2. I am sorry about your friend, but I am glad P has a little longer with LM.

I guess the bee takes some perspective. You can see it as a blessing if you are viewing it in the form of bringing new life, or you can be a little pessimistic and see that even pretty things hide danger....Sorry, I am a little tired this morning. :-)

Hope the bees continue to bring you blessings. I have already seen real bluebonnets along our highways...I am so excited.

  3. If you go to the funeral, could you give Rae a hug for me?! It's so hard being so far away!
I can't imagine anything more comforting than the knowledge that the Lord is holding our hand! Know I'm praying!
