Leaving the nest....or jumping into it?

My little chickadee has flown the coop (just long enough to compete in the state German Club competition down in Austin!) and I am sitting here watching our kitty kiss our parakeet through the bars on her cage! Sure enough, if I was to get the camera, it would be over!

**Time passed, and I took these pictures to show you how much they love each other:

It is a peaceful coexistence, because they were both babies when we adopted them
! That is not to say that we have not had a few little scares with the two of them! Usually, it is if Nitro escapes her cage and goes flying around! Pepper is always on alert for such opportunities!

One time, they were sort of working together and the outcome was this: Keegan and I were in a back room. Nirto was in Keegan's room playing with the doors to her cage. Actually, she was trying to show Pepper how to open the cage doors! (At that time, we used paper clips wound around the cage bars to hold the doors shut.) The next thing we heard was the loud flapping of wings and a few screeches, and then Pepper's bell on her collar, ringing as she trotted down the hall. Keegan ran into the hallway to see Nitro IN Pepper's mouth! We think she was headed to her water dish, where she places her toy mice. Who
knows. Keegan retrieved the startled bird, and put her back in her cage. She was breathing hard, but completely fine. Pepper just gave us the look of, " Wha?...What did I do?" When I told the vet this story, her eyes grew wide, and then she laughed, because if Pepper was to do any harm to Nitro, it would have been when she was in her mouth!

Their friendship is a little one sided though. Since NItro can not get out of her cage and roam around, every time she sees or hears Pepper, she coos and jumps around trying to get the kitty's attention! LOL So, the picture that describes their relationship most often is this one:

Nitro wants attention; Pepper doesn't care!

Is there anything we can learn from this? Of course there is! If we are out of our homes (bird cage), we need a friend to not only carry us at times, but to be our friend and not harm us (kitty)! AND~~I am on a roll now!~~ when we are in our homes, we want attention from those that we love, and not to be ignored! (So how's that for an analogy?) Oh, one more thing...always use safety pins on bird cage doors!

Bonus question: are you more like the bird, or the kitty in this story? Hmmm...

  1. I love the look on Pepper's face in the last picture! They remind of HannahKate and Hallie...and I bet you can guess which one is which!

  2. Praying right now!
Psalms 36:5-7 Thy mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds. Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; thy judgments are a great deep: O LORD, thou preservest man and beast. How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.

  3. Praying hard right now!
Psalms 18:28-33 For thou wilt light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness. For by thee I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall. As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him. For who is God save the LORD? or who is a rock save our God? It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect. He maketh my feet like hinds' feet, and setteth me upon my high places.

    Always here praying!
Philippians 4:6-7 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
