Years Turn In To Years

We visited Ricky's Grandmother (Nanny) at the nursing home yesterday. She looked so pretty--her hair was fixed, her nails were painted, and she even had some make up on her face. It was a good day for her; she remembered us and said things she always used to say. To Keegan, "It doesn't seem like you should be that big!" and "You're a big 'ol boy!"

Of course, she was still 'not all with us' in some ways. She also thought it was her birthday again. She just turned 95 in February, but I am pretty sure if you ask her, she is still 88--the same age she was when J.K. (Pappa) passed away. They had been married for 70, yes, SEVENTY years! Time stopped for her then, and she is still waiting for him to come home...nearly 7 years later.

Ricky and his twin brother, Randy spent a lot of time during their childhood with Nanny & Pappa. It was so obvious as I watched them relating to the residents, that the level of respect toward their elders is a very strong gift instilled in them so long ago.

What a great example they were for Keegan to see. As hard as it was to place Nanny in a nursing home, it was the best decision for everyone. Alzheimer's is a dreadful disease that robs families and individuals of the loved ones they know. Many times, it drags on and years turn in to years. I am thankful that Nanny had a 'good day' when we visited. That is always counted as a blessing!

  1. My Dad had to make the decision to put Mom in a nursing home, but it was the best place for her, too. Way too many bad things can happen if they're not watched 24 hours a day. But oh it's so sad when this happens...
Know that you're always in my thoughts and prayers!
Psalm 86:11-13a Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name. I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name for evermore. For great is thy mercy toward me...

  2. Praying!
Psalm 17:5-8 Hold up my goings in thy paths, that my footsteps slip not. I have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me, O God: incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech. Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them. Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings.

Hebrews 6:18-20: That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
